Heavenly Bodies

The sounds of Heavenly Bodies were constructed by using the spatial movements of the planets translated into frequencies. Astronomy is the application of geometry through space, music is the application of geometry through time. This album seeks to bridge the spatial and sonic by exploring the sacred ratios and mathematics that guide the planets as they dance through our solar system with perfect balance and precision. The Dream Cycles

This eight and a half-hour long album contains a carefully crafted mix of musical tones, binaural beats (for headphone listeners) tuned to aid sleep, long periods of silence or barely audible soundscapes to aid in the cycles of deep sleep, an extended session during the third phase of sleep to guide in lucid dreaming, and a gently unfolding piece of music on the piano that emerges slowly from the lucid dream suite like a mirage to welcome you into the Hypnopompic state of shifting towards waking consciousness. H E L I O S T Ā S I O

Heliostāsio stands for the standing of the sun so called by ancient Greeks to describe the solstice. This ambient album is the outcome of an impromptu live jam session by sound Michael  and Wild Anima (Berlin) recorded at Berlin’s Glogauair residency space in September 2018.
Inspired by their own individual stays in Iceland the artists paint a multi-layered soundscape standing in between night and day and time and matter. Translating this infinite yet ephemeral moment found in the dance of the celestial bodies, where shadow and light slip softly in between the rhythms of nature and the cosmos. The spaces in between, dawn and dusk, solstices and equinoxes. Recurring patterns yet never the same. (2020)

Radiant Gradient

In this collection of vibrational attunement, we visit seven of the core frequencies in the ancient Solfeggio tuning system. Each frequency is associated with a color (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet). Also, each of these frequencies corresponds to a node of energy that goes along the spine called The Chakras. Many believe that receiving these vibrations through our bodies can enact a change in our energy for a specific resonance. (2020)

Vipassanā

As an extension of Michael’s weekly offering on Meditative Soundscapes comes a new album in the “Meditation” series. This collection of music explores the broad and important concept of Vipassanā as a form of meditation. The album can experienced as a soundtrack to a wordless guided meditation to explore the “three marks of existence” as the ultimate inquiry into true nature of existence. It can also be explored as a curiosity or background ambient music or as a soundtrack to your life. (2020)

Samatha

An album of gently unfolding minimal waves of sounds. This simple suite contains over two hours of long-playing tracks that move slowly with many pauses in sound to make room for your own experience. The sound palette for Samatha is a simple Juno pad and RavVast hand pan (similar to the Hang Drum, a cross between a steel drum and a harp). This music was created for an online Yoga Class by Italian teacher Monica Gentile. It has a very live feel as it was recorded usually in one stream of conscious take as I played along to the yoga video class. It feels like you are in the room with me as I play. It obviously works well for your own practice, meditation, being, becoming and the gentle unfolding of life as it is.

Memories of Earth 4: Uttarakhand, India

The fourth in a series of reimagined field recordings of memory and place processed using “Sonic Photography” techniques. In March 2018 I was an artist in Residency at PECAH – BHOR. The “Programme of Exchange in Culture and Art of Himalayas” is an opportunity to exchange ideas and skills with the traditional art forms of the Himalayas in Uttarkhand, India. PECAH is dedicated to spreading the radical flavor of Uttarakhand’s art forms. Artists will come to know the vast cultural palate of this region and local people will also benefit from this exchange, for “art and artisan have no boundaries”. Interaction and collaboration with local artists and the inspirational aura is the major priority of PECAH”.

Dissolve

Dissolve is intended to be listened to as a still sonic journey lying or sitting down, but can also be used as a soundtrack to yoga, meditation or inner/outer exploration. The hour-long album is one continuous track that slowly unravels and dissolves into nothing; leaving the listener with just hiss and silence. Mikronesia had this to say about the work, “I intentionally left a lot of space in this piece to allow sounds and experiences from the listener’s own internal and external environment to melt into radical sonic peace.”

dibba-sota

In the sounds of everyday life shines the luminous ground of infinite space. Deep in the stillness of silent becoming we can experience the interconnected web, present and waiting to be plucked. dibba-sota is one of the deeper states of transcendent meditation taught in Buddhism. Specifically, Dibba-sota translates from the Pali to mean “Divine ear” or clairaudience or supernatural hearing. This collection of deep and still music is inspired by the imagined serenity and interconnection I find listening to the (un)natural world. Many of the tracks contain field recording I made in 2016 traveling to Ottawa, Quebec, Montana and Washington. This album is recommended for meditation, sleep, yoga and slowing down.

Dedicated to my teacher Pauline Oliveros

Memories of Earth 3: Iceland

The third in a series of “Memories of Earth” albums with treated field recordings from a specific location. The intention of these albums to allow the listener to experience a sense of place through listening. The envirmonetal records are augmented with subtle effects and “sonic photography” techniques to represent our own coloring of sound through listening consiousness.

Sounds recorded in Northern and Central Iceland while on residency at Listhus in Ólafsfjörður.

Memories of Earth 1: Ilhabela, Brazil

Sounds recorded and processed using sonic photography techniques to elicit the real and imagined world of listening on the island of Ilhabela, Brazil. In June 2017, I was artist in residence at Casa Na Ilha on the island of Ilhabela, Brazil. While there I explored trails, jungles, water falls, the ocean and listened to and recorded the sounds of birds, incects, trees, people and life that inhabit this wonderful ecological paradise.

Quiescent

Quiescent is a journey into a meditative dreamland. The album in its entirety is an eight-hour-long soundtrack patterned after the four sleep cycles. The music gently drifts with you as you release into slumber and then brings you back through to the other side of consciousness. This album can be experienced as a companion to a full night’s sleep or in smaller pieces during yoga, meditation, relaxation, or being.

Torn Ivory

Torn Ivory is a saturated forest of delicate acoustic piano framed by a flickering stream of static textures. The acoustic piano was recorded initially at Marlborough College in the Vermont country side. Over the winter of 2013 the lofi recordings were processed, treated and re-sampled to create a hazy mulch of warm post-digital ambient piano music.

Sick with Silence

Heavy beats, dense “wall of sound” textures, gamelan motifs and gongs, fender rhodes, melodica, bass guitar lots of dub treatments (treatments) (treatments) (treatments) and guess vocals from Erb Blazer (AKA Leon from Iron) and John Morrison, as well as contributions from long-time collaborators Ghost Darling (from Gemini Wolf) and Bilwa.

Host

Sound artist Michael Reiley has embarked on his stillest and most minimal album to date. Host is a two part tale of journeying. The first track contains field recordings taken from a winter camping trip at World”s End State Park. Part one (“Snow Wind Cast Into The Fire Well”) explores the art of texture, using minimal chord changes and melody but presenting them in contrast to the textured field recordings. The second part uses pure sine waves to explore the overtone series of the note “C”. “Pure” uses clean sound to create a state of timeless stillness, slowly tearing apart the very fabric of tone.
